Tyringham Historical Society:
Preserving our Past for the Future
The continuing presence of historic properties in Massachusetts immeasurably enhances the quality of our lives: they help to establish our sense of place and to define the very character of our communities.
The Tyringham Historical Society is an independent, volunteer-run, non-profit, membership-driven organization established in 2019 to promote understanding of the history of the town of Tyringham, Massachusetts, and to promote and celebrate the buildings, artifacts, traditions, and, especially, the people of the town.
Current members of the Society are focused on the restoration of the schoolhouse, which was successfully listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020. Our mission includes working closely with the townspeople, the Board of Selectmen, and the Tyringham Historical Commission to devise a workable plan leading to the restoration of this cherished landmark.
We welcome anyone wishing to join us in our town preservation efforts. We hope everyone in town will be a member!
Our initial goal is to encourage and support efforts
to restore the Tyringham Schoolhouse.
Our Mission
The Tyringham Historical Society is an independent, volunteer-run, non-profit organization established in 2019 to promote understanding of the history of the town of Tyringham, Massachusetts, and to promote and celebrate the buildings, artifacts, traditions, and people of the town.
Working alongside existing town organizations such as the Tyringham Historical Commission and the Select Board, the Historical Society will use its status as a 501(c)3 to raise funds to support historical preservation and education efforts in the town, with a special focus on the historic Tyringham Schoolhouse.
Through grants, tax-exempt private donations, and a robust individual membership program, the Tyringham Historical Society will use its fundraising power to help maintain the history and share that history with others.
Our Goals
- To promote understanding of the history of Tyringham and to preserve and celebrate the buildings, artifacts, and history of the town
- To build a robust membership organization that can serve as a “friends of” Tyringham’s historical assets, buildings, and traditions
- To work with its members to determine new and exciting ways to celebrate Tyringham’s history through talks, events, forums, and other community activities
- To use its non-profit status to independently raise funds from private donors and foundations to support the preservation of town history
